Computerized System Validation for Dynamics NAV?

Darren asks, “Does anyone have experience with System Validation for NAV?”

A brief explanation: Computerized system validation (CSV) is the documented process of assuring that a computerized system does exactly what it is designed to do in a consistent and reproducible manner. The purpose of validation is to establish the compliance of any activity output as compared to inputs of the activity. It is used to provide information and evidence that the transformation of inputs produced the expected and right result.

Bill Warnke's reply, “NAV has the ability to do this. They skipped a couple NAV versions so it's kind of been in doubt as to whether or not they were going to keep going with it. It's big and SLOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW... I gave up with it when test results run externally didn't match the same tests that I ran from within NAV.”

Jon Long’s reply, “Until MS enforces ISV usage of auto testing, it will not be wide spread outside base NAV code. MS runs their entire test suites every night on every supported version of NAV. That is why their cumulative updates and major releases are relatively bug free (relative to 2009 and 2013). By the way, I asked Lanham if they have used auto testing and they answered NO. I don't know a single ISV that uses auto tests.”

However, if you or your client is wondering if Microsoft does this, then you can let them know that, yes, Microsoft does complete regression testing on each new build. Not to mention, that our Upgrade team can create specific auto testing for a particular client and their environment.

Microsoft has been doing a great job listening to feedback and implementing suggestions for the next version of NAV/AL Language. Just had my little nitpicky suggestion implemented in the May Update.

How Many Dynamics NAV Users are Logged In?

In any Dynamics NAV version 2015 or later, in the Role Tailored Client (RTC), search for "sessions" to see how many users are logged in at any given time. This shows a list maintained by the service tiers when someone logs in and out, or when they become disconnected.
