Cumulative Updates for Dynamics NAV

The Dynamics NAV Team blog produced much news in August with cumulative updates for NAV 2017, 2016, 2015, 2013, and 2013 R2. Microsoft advises keeping your Dynamics NAV version current with the latest update, whether you are experiencing issues or not.

Dynamics NAV Development Preview – August 2017

In case you missed the August Development Preview for NAV, it includes the ability to work with three different country versions of the application database, a preview of the new debugging experience, replacements for highly requested .NET types, enrichments to the built-in Text data type, new capabilities for VS Code extension, and new authentication methods. Whew!

QR Code in the Dynamics NAV Phone App

The phone app for Dynamics NAV has an interesting extension, providing the ability to retrieve pictures using your device camera. The camera feature is explained in the How to Implement the Camera in C/AL blog post, which allows you to develop your own .NET Assembly to read QR Code.

Image Analyzer in Dynamics NAV as a Cognitive Service

Totovic blogs about the ability to analyze pictures in Dynamics NAV (soon) and Dynamics 365 (D365 for Financials), which you can test now. He explains the setup to use this functionality and runs several tests that produce interesting results based on image type, “natural” or “catalog.” He continues the conversation in another post, Contact Photos in Dynamics NAV as Cognitive Service, running another test using images that correctly analyzed the gender, but maybe not the age.

Announcing the C/AL Open Library

Saurav shares this exciting news, noting that the C/AL Open Library is a repository for .NET Interop wrappers that will be included into D365 for Financials, and usable by Extension V2 in the base.
